As a very proud member of MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs) for 20 plus years, who once also served on the Broad, I have never been prouder of what this association is doing, then I am right now! At MACnyc.com you will see many new programs being offered, a calendar to notify your fellow members of upcoming shows, a Facebook presence, a Google Group with a very active list serve, AccuRadio where members CDs are played, and so much more like song writing contests with cash prizes, and annual scholarships to help assure that both the American Songbook, and the work of new songwriters will live on for the next generation.
Recently, MAC announced their Fall Schedule for the MAC Open Mic nights, at 3 different clubs with 3 different Musical Directors and hosts (see flier below). And, this year’s “MAC to School” program in now a two-day seminar of incredible programs offered in various aspects of performing of which both David Sabella and I are panel members.
I will be a member of the panel discussions Cabaret 101 – Getting Started and Cabaret 201 – The Next Level on Saturday, September 15th from 10:00-12:15 and later that same day at 2:15 pm, David will be working with Dawn Derow and Natalie Douglas teaching a Vocal Styling Workshop. Other courses include Vocal Warm Up Boot Camp (Stearns Matthews); a Directing Workshop (Lennie Watts) and then a Master Class with KT Sullivan.
Sunday, September 16th there is an Image Workshop (Kristoffer Lowe); a seminar on Performing as Part of an Ensemble (Those Girls, Sierra Rein of Marquee Five and Carole Demas); then a Songwriting Seminar with David Friedman, Julie Gold and Scott Evan Davis, all ending the day with a Master Class with (the other lovely Sullivan) Stacy.
This is MAC!. This is what a trade association should be…helping its members learn, grow and interact in their profession, and with each other. A huge acknowledgment goes out to Lennie Watts who has served as MAC’s President for many years now, leading the organization like a business with a purpose…promoting the art of Cabaret and Club singing. BRAVO Lennie and to the entire Board!
Again, having served on the Board, I know the amount of thankless hours it takes to run this vibrant organization. And, this is one member who appreciates all that you are doing, and will do, to keep this artform going strong!
