WELCOME to Cabaret Hotspot!

I hope that you enjoy the site, and find it informative,  helpful and above all, educational. As I state on the “About Us” page, Cabaret Hotspot! grew out of a need that I felt was present after Stu Hamstra’s passing, and the demise of Cabaret Hotline Online. The Hotline was a central hub of Cabaret for several decades. And several times, since Stu’s passing, I found myself wondering, sometimes at the last minute, “What’s going on tonight?” or “Can I see a show somewhere tonight?” And, at the last minute, there was no time to search the various club’s website schedules or troll through my Facebook feed to see whom of my friends might be performing that evening. This happened enough times for me to really miss The Cabaret Hotline, which, for many of us, had become the “TV Guide” of cabaret.

Mr. Stu Hamstra

And then, while talking with my good friend, Sue Matsuki, inspiration hit. Why not pick up the baton of Cabaret Hotline? Why not create a NEW site dedicated to the world of Cabaret, with a central calendar where everyone can see what’s playing, at every club, every night? And why not honor Stu in this way, by carrying on his legacy? Hence, the birth of Cabaret Hotspot!

Above all else, however, Cabaret Hotspot! is an education and information site, designed to be very interactive. All readers can leave a post reply, communicating with the contributing author(s), and each other. And, members of the site can post their performances (if not already listed) on the universal calendar, FREE OF CHARGE. Many events will already be listed on the calendar, so please check to see if your club is a participating club.

On Cabaret Hotspot! you will find News, Interviews, Pre-Views, Post-Views, Sue’s Views, and D’s POV

  • News – announcements and information
  • Interviews – with both Artists and Teachers within the genre
  • Pre-Views – pre-show press releases
  • Re-Views – similar to a standard “review”, but with an educational, rather than critical, point of view.
  • Sue’s Views – Sue Matsuki’s cabaret blog with personal insights and information.
  • D’s POV – David Sabella’s cabaret blog with personal insights and information.

Our contributors are all performing artists, as well as educators, and writers. And, I consciously use the term “contributor” rather than “reviewer” or” critic,” because above all else, my goal for Cabaret Hotspot! is to be educational, supportive, constructive, and to contribute to the world of cabaret. And, through our unique Cab U (Cabaret University), to help each performer reach their full potential.

In addition to offering free digital resources, Cab U, will offer on-site masterclasses, and workshops, as well as online instruction. And, with our “Find-a-PRO” roster, performers will be able to find the top teachers, vocal coaches, music directors, stage directors, and various designers in the cabaret industry, all ready, willing and able to help each performer turn their unrealized potential into a realized goal.

Are you a professional coach or resource professional? Consider joining Cabaret Hotspot!, as a PRO Member, and you’ll be able to create your own personal profile where talent can find you, and receive discounts of advertising on the site. Already a performer? Become an Artist Member and receive a 20% discount on all advertising and Cab U Classes. And Aspiring Members may register, for FREE (to keep out the spam-bots), and can upload their show details, with a picture, and a link to purchase tickets.

My deepest thanks to Sue Matsuki, for giving me the courage and strength to take on this endeavor. And, for helping me at every step of the way. Sue is often referred to as everyone’s “cabaret mom.“ Well, she certainly is my “cabaret sister,” and I could not have done this without her.

Thanks also to the many cabaret club owners and booking managers, especially Sidney Meyer at Don’t Tell Mama, and Kenny Bell at The Laurie Beechman Theatre, who also encouraged me to pick up the baton of Cabaret Hotline Online, and have welcomed me with open arms.

And lastly, A BIG thank you to Ms. Regina Zona at www.toscawebdesign.com, who worked tirelessly to complete my vision for the site by our September 15th launch.

Please be sure to bookmark www.cabarethotspot.com and come back often! And until then…

See you at the club!
