THE MARVELOUS MARILYN MAYE @ F54
OCTOBER 25, 2021 – NOVEMBER 1, 2021 @ 7:00 pm
Cabaret Hotspot attended Marilyn Maye’s Open Night of her 7-day engagement at Feinstein’s 54 Below. It was a FANTASTIC evening with a lot of new material that this fan has never heard her sing before. This is not a review (who would presume!) so much as a plea for you to get whatever few tickets are still remaining for this run and gift yourself an evening with Ms. Maye. As many have said, myself included, she is a masterclass on stage!
Ms. Maye opened with her “Rainbow Medley”, offering one incredible song after another but don’t worry, she still performs a few of her signature tunes. She also offers what I’m calling a “Smile Medley” which, after everything we have all been though and are now coming back from, was such a joy to hear. It put everyone in a good mood. She sang about the season and closed with songs of love for our beloved city, her second home. It was a beautifully constructed show. The new material is delivered with Ms. Maye’s personal stamp so they will all become “chestnut tunes” that we all clamor for every time we see her. She is simply a marvel, hence her moniker, “The MARVELOUS Marilyn Maye!”.
Backed by the ever-stellar Tedd Firth (piano), Tom Hubbard (bass) and the adorable Mark McClean (drums) who she proceeded to flirt with on stage unmercifully…this after a running gag of forgetting her band’s names. You can see and feel the love these men have for her…and the respect. She is a musician’s singer because she herself is a musician.
Below is the official Feinstein’s blurb. I would recommend that you get your tickets immediately as the run is selling out fast! We would recommend that if you are on a budget, try to get the bar rail seating…they are some of the best seats in the house!
Back by popular demand! Marilyn Maye makes a shining return to Broadway’s Living Room. A theatrical legend with the power to “melt the heart of the most hardened cynics” (The New York Times), Maye will show audiences why she’s been crowned Manhattan’s Queen of Cabaret.
Her recent streaming show at Feinstein’s/54 Below was critically acclaimed, with rave reviews calling the evening “a master class in singing conducted by a polished pro” (The New York Observer), who bowls audiences over “in the hippest, most swinging way imaginable” (The Wall Street Journal). Put simply, “no entertainer gives you more in terms of great music, great theater, and great comedy” (Opera News).
Marilyn Maye is an artist for connoisseurs. Her powerhouse delivery and chatty rapport with the audience holds the evening together and electrifies the proceedings. This will be a night you do not want to miss!
