GRAMMY® award winning pianist Bill Charlap has performed with many of the leading artists in jazz including Tony Bennett, and Wynton Marsalis. The New York City native is the son of Broadway composer Moose Charlap, and Benny Goodman Orchestra vocalist Sandy Stewart. In 1997, Charlap formed a trio with bassist Peter Washington and drummer Kenny Washington, and was quickly as one of the foremost interpreters of American popular song: “…no matter how imaginative or surprising his take on a song is, he invariably zeroes in on its essence.” (Time Magazine). For this engagement Charlap has invited four leading instrumentalists to be his duo partners. Charlap has long histories with both tenor saxophone legend Houston Person and trumpet virtuoso Jon Faddis, while his performances with tenor saxophonist Chris Potter, one of the leading voices in modern jazz, and jazz bass icon and NEA Jazz Master Ron Carter, are the artists’ first ever duo performances together.
