The Laurie Beechman Theatre
Nancy McGraw returns to The Laurie Beechman Theatre with
“In the Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening” singing the lyrics of Johnny Mercer.
Director and Musical Director, Mark Nadler, will be at the piano.
Johnny Mercer said, “If you want to ask what makes me tick, I would say that it is that I am from Savannah.” Nancy McGraw presents Mercer’s lyrics through the lens of their shared Southern heritage.
“As well as I know most of those songs, Nancy’s warm, wise, no-frills singing made them all sound new to me. And as a North Carolina girl she brought out Mercer’s Southern roots, which are at the heart of his work. Brava Nancy, Bravo Mark” – James Gavin, author “Intimate Nights”
“One of our favorite singers returns to the cabaret stage with a program of songs with lyrics by Johnny Mercer. She exemplifies keen musicianship and on-the-mark lyric interpretation, and the Mercer material is a perfect match for her sensibilities. She’s joined by Mark Nadler at the piano- another perfect match.” – Roy Sander, Bistro Picks
“From the moment she stepped onstage, McGraw immediately put the audience at ease- not only with her Southern charm, her gentle wit and her keen use of lyric, but also with her astute showmanship and extreme depth as an actress.” – David Sabella, Cabaret Hotspot
“Nancy McGraw locates the emotional essence of a song and infuses it with the personal understanding of life’s ups and downs.”
John Hoglund, Backstage
“Nancy fills the stage with a genuinely warm presence, inhabiting each song and investing it with her own unmannered expressiveness.” – Peter Haas, Cabaret Scenes Magazine
Nancy McCall McGraw was in the original Broadway cast of “Nine” and appeared Off-Broadway in “Godspell’, “The Heebie Jeebies”, and “Forbidden Broadway”. She was an owner of Steve McGraw’s Cabaret Theatre, where she presented some of Off-Broadway’s longest running musicals, and countless cabaret artists.
