WHAT THE CRITICS ARE SAYING

“Marieann has made it even more personal…She and her musical director Doyle Newmyer also achieved this by melding key songs together in ways that make the point more fully than they could individually. By shifting from “The Way We Were” and into “Fifty Percent,” and then from “Windmills of Your Mind” to “Between Yesterday and Tomorrow” or melding two Yentl songs together, “Where Is It Written” and “A Piece of Sky,” she takes the familiar and makes it sound fresh.” – From the albums Liner Notes by Will Friedwald.

“To do justice to the lyrics of Alan & Marilyn Bergman, a singer must have flawless pitch, a very attractive tone, the ability to enunciate perfectly so one always understands the lyrics, and a solid sense of swing. She has all of those qualities.” – Scott Yanow, LA Jazz Scene, author of The Jazz Singer.

“Marieann Meringolo,” a singer who bears some physical and vocal resemblance to Barbra Streisand, delivered one of the two or three strongest renditions I can remember. She also has a sense of humor that comes into play at appropriate moments.” – Stephen Holden, The New York Times
